What Is Shiro Nuka

Shiro Nuka is made from the choice parts of bran of Japanese rice: the nutrient-rich germ, and the soft "inner" bran layer (Aleurone) of the rice grain.

Nuka (or komenuka) is the Japanese word for bran of rice (Oryza sativa japonica). Women in Japan have used it's powder to beautify and maintain their much-admired complexion since the 8th century Heian period.

Benefits of Shiro Nuka for Skin

Even-out skin's tone & brighten complexion, soften skin and improve texture, diminish wrinkles and fine lines, buff and cleanse skin, reduce blemishes, anti-aging and skin repairTone, Brighten and Improve Dryness

Rice bran is the only known source of a remarkable skin-brightening antioxidant called Gamma-oryzanol.

Based on scientific research, Gamma-oryzanol helps tone and brighten skin by suppressing skin's melanin levels. It also regulates skin's sebum production (sebaceous glands), improving dry skin and fighting skin irritations.

Anti-Aging and Skin Repair

Rice Bran is exceptionally high in Tocotrienol, the so-called Super Vitamin E. Tocotrienol is a powerful anti-aging antioxidant, which penetrates rapidly and neutralizes free radicals.

Rice Bran is rich in vitamin B Complex (commonly called the Beauty Vitamin), especially B1 (Thiamin), B3 (Niacin) and B6 (Pyridoxine). Among many benefits, B Complex helps skin make new cells and repair skin damage.

Rice Bran contains Squalene, a natural lubricant and skin barrier which helps slow moisture loss and keep skin soft and supple. Squalene comprises about 12% of healthy skin's sebum. Its levels peak in our early 20's and then decline rapidly.

Anatomy of WAWAZA's Shiro Nuka

Our Shiro Nuka is made from the germ (Embryo) plus inner bran layer (Aleurone) of Japanese rice.A grain of rice is composed of many layers and parts. See diagram to the right.

Our Shiro Nuka is made from the germ (Embryo) plus inner bran layer (Aleurone) of Japanese rice.

  • Aleurone: Whitish, soft "inner" bran layer
  • Embryo: The nutrient rich germ

Together, they weigh only about 6% of the weight of the entire grain, but contain about 80% of all the nutrients and minerals available in a grain of rice.

The labor intensive process of making Shiro Nuka involves separating and discarding the less choice parts, namely

  • Tegmen: Reddish, coarse "outer" bran layer
  • Pericap: Greenish, abrasive husk layer
  • Endosperm: Carbohydrate rich center (white rice)
