About Pink Porcelain Lily

Pink porcelain lily is native to Okinawa and a member of the ginger family of plants. It also called butterfly ginger and Alpinia zerumbet.

When in bloom, the pretty pink flowers become peach-shaped as they mature and shimmer in summer's moonlit nights. For this reason, Japanese lovingly call it gettô (月桃, moon-peach).

Pink porcelain lily is rich in resveratrol. The extract from its leaves is used in Okinawan cuisine and traditional medicine, as well as in anti-wrinkle cosmetic formulations.

Some researchers believe that pink porcelain lily is one factor contributing to the longevity of Okinawan people, who also use its leaves as edible wrapping for rice cakes.
