About Yomogi

Yomogi, also known as Japanese mugwort, is a member of the aster family of plants which also include chrysanthemum, daisy, and sunflower. It grows in the wild, almost everywhere in Japan.

Japanese prize yomogi for its benefits and consider it a wonder herb. They use its leaves in numerous ways such as for making tea (yomogi cha), sweet mochi rice cakes, skin-beautifying soaps, bath preparations (yomogi-yu)  and steam sauna for ladies (yomogi-mushi).

Japanese use yomogi leaves to make tea (Yomogi Cha), sweet rice cakes (mochi), soaps, and bath (Yomogi Yu).

According to the 8th-century book Nihon Shoki (Official Chronicles of Japan), in the year 612 AD, Empress Suiko who was an avid fan of herbal cures decreed the 5th day of the 5th month of every year to be the day for collecting irises and yomogi leaves.

On this day, the royal court went out on a ceremonial expedition for collecting fresh yomogi leaves and encouraged the public to make time to visit the countryside.

The tradition is known as Medicine Hunt (kusuri-gari) and observed by young and old alike on May 5th to this day.

I am a single mom with five kids, and three hair salons. To find a calm,HEALTHY ritual to help me during the week is vital.I feel like I am,healing and helping my body and what's left of my mind. Relaxing and enjoying a cup of tea and soaking in a tub with these packs of delightful Yomogi leaves. I look forward to it every week. WAWAZA is my favorite treasure.
