About Yomogi

Yomogi, also known as Japanese mugwort, grows in the wild almost everywhere in Japan. It is a member of the aster family of plants which also include chrysanthemum, daisy, and sunflower.

Benefits and Uses

Japanese use the yomogi leaves for making tea (yomogi-cha) and sweet mochi rice cakes (yomogi-mochi).

Herbal tea (yomogi-cha), rice cakes (yomogi-mochi), yomogi soap, yomogi bath (yomogi-yu), and ladies' steam sauna (yomogi-mushi)

Yomogi leaves are also in soaps, skin-beautifying baths (yomogi-yu), and steam sauna for ladies (yomogi-mushi.)

Yomogi leaves contain numerous beneficial compounds with anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. Cosmetic manufacturers use its extract as an ingredient in skin care formulations.

Other benefits include relieving cramps and irregular periods, increasing reproductive health, and breast and cervical cancer prevention.

Japanese have appreciated the benefits of yomogi for a very long time, and consider it a "wonder plant."

The tradition, known as Medicine Hunt (kusuri-gari) is observed on May 5th to this day

The 7th century Empress Suiko, Japan's first female monarch who had a passion for herbal cures, decreed the 5th day of the 5th month of every year to be the day for collecting irises and yomogi leaves.

The tradition is known as Medicine Hunt (kusuri-gari) and observed every year on May 5th to this day.

This is my favorite soap so far

Posted by michelle rooney on 3rd May 2021

Since I have eczema and I’m 40’s, this has been a blessing. My blemishes are clearing up along with minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. It has a softening affect on my face. My daughter Allison is 21 and using it also. Will continue to buy this. It’s become my favorite so far. Would recommend this to anyone with sensitive skin or blemishes.

    Next level

Wawaza is quite unique without much competition in its segment. It is astonishing the kind of plants they include in their products. I used to swear on french soap but had to reconsider after I tried the Yomogi soap. Best soap I know so far, going to buy it over and over again.

    Another great soap from Wawaza!

This soap works very well with my normal and oily-sensitive skin. It didn't cause any irritation or dryness, and cleans very well. Also the soap lathers nicely and lasts for a quite long time, even when used daily for body and face.

This soap is great for sensitive skin - it didn't cause any reactions and didn't dry out my skin rather left it feeling very smooth. I really appreciate Wawaza's level of quality and their commitment to pure ingredients. My order also arrived quickly and was very well packaged as always, thank you Wawaza!

    gentle and effective

Gentle and moisturizing, and unscented so it doesn't set off my migraines! I was skeptical about using soap on my dry skin instead of a creamy face wash, but this is gentle enough for me. I use it with the Biwako traditional washcloth and my skin is very happy.

This is the best soap I’ve ever used on my skin… and somehow I knew it already before that it would be, just seeing it on the website. Not because I red many positive reviews, but because of the ingredients. Curious, me too I come from a years-long story with the African Black soap, it was the only cleanser that my skin accepted(it’s a very ‘freakish’ skin!!), but stayed a tiny bit too dryed, while the Yomogi is perfect! Also the consistency is way better – while the African is very soft and messy, the Yomogi bar is nicely solid. Well this was certainly “love at first glance” with this soap, and will last, will last loooong….. :-):-)

    I love this soap!!

I absolutely adore this soap! It is very mild but cleans very thoroughly. I was using African black soap before for my face and it would sting and I would still get alot of pimples. Now my acne has gone down to practically nonexistent (would be nonexistent if I would stop having those lazy days where I just fall into bed without washing my face) and my skin tone is getting much better! It is also really good for any rashes. Plus it is green and I love green!

It does what it describes, it has left my skin feeling very smooth and has helped in clearing some red spots i had left from acne. it's only been a week so far, so i'm hoping that it'll continue on clearing it all as times goes on in combination with the bijin moisturizer. Will order more :)

I like that it has no artificial additives and is mild

Posted by Raarnt on 27th Jan 2016

Been using the soap for about a week. It's really is non-drying despite that it lathers well. Works better if you chop off a tiny piece and lather it in your hands. I have very dry skin so moisturizing with only Carmelia oil is not enough for me since even with just water as a cleanser I still need a moisturizer. No breakouts yet. I don't think you can find a milder soap.

    Super nice!

Posted by Kalea on 23rd Aug 2015

I love the subtle smell of this soap. It's relaxing, and not too powerful!

I use it daily and it makes my skin happy. Like I feel so clean, but not a squeaky or grimy clean, just soft and nourished clean.

Bottom line, I love this soap! I'd recommend it to anyone.

    Thanks, Wawaza! <3
