About Yomogi

Yomogi, also known as Japanese mugwort, grows in the wild almost everywhere in Japan. It is a member of the aster family of plants which also include chrysanthemum, daisy, and sunflower.

Benefits and Uses

Japanese use the yomogi leaves for making tea (yomogi-cha) and sweet mochi rice cakes (yomogi-mochi).

Herbal tea (yomogi-cha), rice cakes (yomogi-mochi), yomogi soap, yomogi bath (yomogi-yu), and ladies' steam sauna (yomogi-mushi)

Yomogi leaves are also in soaps, skin-beautifying baths (yomogi-yu), and steam sauna for ladies (yomogi-mushi.)

Yomogi leaves contain numerous beneficial compounds with anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. Cosmetic manufacturers use its extract as an ingredient in skin care formulations.

Other benefits include relieving cramps and irregular periods, increasing reproductive health, and breast and cervical cancer prevention.

History

Japanese have appreciated the benefits of yomogi for a very long time, and consider it a "wonder plant."

The tradition, known as Medicine Hunt (kusuri-gari) is observed on May 5th to this day

The 7th century Empress Suiko, Japan's first female monarch who had a passion for herbal cures, decreed the 5th day of the 5th month of every year to be the day for collecting irises and yomogi leaves.

The tradition is known as Medicine Hunt (kusuri-gari) and observed every year on May 5th to this day.

I used this soap for the first time in my shower and was pleasantly surprised. It seemed to soothe and soften my skin and lathered nicely. A great product!

    Clean, Natural Soap

Posted by Anonymous customer on 30th Jul 2023

This gentle soap has a wonderful, clean, natural scent that reminds me of how my Japanese grandmother used to smell. I like how my skin feels after I use this soap: clean but not stripped. Another customer mentioned that she gives this soap away to as gifts and I agree that this soap would make a great gift for yourself or your loved ones.

    Gentle

This soap doesn’t have much scent and actually had subtle qualities to it which you can look at positively or negatively. I feel like with American culture we tend to be used to everything being concentrated and overly stimulating. If you can let that idea go you can appreciate the zen like nature of this excellent quality soap. Energetically I prefer it over any of my previous soaps because I can tell it has been finely crafted and lasts a long time.

Best face soap I have ever used!!!

Posted by Natalie G on 2nd Jun 2021

This is a fantastic soap. It does not overdry my skin and is not harsh when I apply it on my face, and it has never burned my eyes in any way. I purchased several bars as gifts for friends, and I am writing this review after suggesting it to another friend and sending her the link to buy more. It is green and has a light scent that reminds me of Tea Tree oil, but it is not overpowering. It is without a doubt the best face soap I have ever used. It comes beautifully packaged, and they usually add one or two trial packs of various items. I am not usually one for frills or squandering money on attractive packaging, but this is an exception.

It is a first thing you need to use on your skin.

Posted by Min Raj on 29th May 2021

This yomogi soap is the first thing I use on my skin in the shower. It does absolute wonders for my skin. It cleans my skin really well, clears out all the oil from the skin, and at the same time keeps my skin hydrated. This is a must have soap for everybody. I think I got even better results on my skin after I started to use rice bran oil on my skin after washing my face with this soap.

This is my favorite soap so far

Posted by michelle rooney on 3rd May 2021

Since I have eczema and I’m 40’s, this has been a blessing. My blemishes are clearing up along with minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. It has a softening affect on my face. My daughter Allison is 21 and using it also. Will continue to buy this. It’s become my favorite so far. Would recommend this to anyone with sensitive skin or blemishes.

    Next level

Wawaza is quite unique without much competition in its segment. It is astonishing the kind of plants they include in their products. I used to swear on french soap but had to reconsider after I tried the Yomogi soap. Best soap I know so far, going to buy it over and over again.

    Another great soap from Wawaza!

This soap works very well with my normal and oily-sensitive skin. It didn't cause any irritation or dryness, and cleans very well. Also the soap lathers nicely and lasts for a quite long time, even when used daily for body and face.

    great for sensitive skin

    Posted by n.v. on 31st May 2017

This soap is great for sensitive skin - it did not cause any reactions or dry out my skin rather left it feeling very smooth. I really appreciate Wawaza's level of quality and their commitment to pure ingredients. My order also arrived quickly and was very well packaged as always, thank you Wawaza!

    gentle and effective

Posted by Laurel on 6th Feb 2017

Gentle and moisturizing, and unscented so it doesn't set off my migraines! I was skeptical about using soap on my dry skin instead of a creamy face wash, but this is gentle enough for me. I use it with the Biwako traditional washcloth and my skin is very happy.

    Awesome!!

Posted by Alexandra on 16th Nov 2016

This is the best soap I’ve ever used on my skin… and somehow I knew it already before that it would be, just seeing it on the website. Not because I red many positive reviews, but because of the ingredients. Curious, me too I come from a years-long story with the African Black soap, it was the only cleanser that my skin accepted(it’s a very ‘freakish’ skin!!), but stayed a tiny bit too dryed, while the Yomogi is perfect! Also the consistency is way better – while the African is very soft and messy, the Yomogi bar is nicely solid. Well this was certainly “love at first glance” with this soap, and will last, will last loooong….. :-):-)
