Very subtle and mild. Natural, woodsy herbal fragrance. Especially suitable for those who are sensitive to strong fragrances or perfumes.
No additives, preservatives, colorings or fragrances.
Not tested on animals and cruelty-free.
In the scent which Japanese cedar (and its incense) gives off there is a natural anti-microbial substance called Phytoncide, which help the tree stay healthy by preventing rot and attacks by germs, bacteria and insects.
Phytoncides, in incense as well as compound form, are widely used in Eastern medicine and aromatherapy for general relaxation and to improve health.
In Japan people commonly engage in forest bathing (森林浴 shin-rin-yoku) to breathe in phytoncides emitted by plant and trees, in order to improve their health.
This incense is produced in Kyushu by our family-run supplier.
Sugi needles are harvested without cutting down the trees, cleaned and ground into pulp using a water mill powered by a local stream, producing zero industrial waste.
Where there were over 40 such operations in the beginning of the 20th century, there are only two left today.
