This incense is produced in Kyushu island by our family-run supplier. Where there were over 40 such operations in the beginning of the 20th century, there are only two left today.
To make the incense, Sugi needles are harvested without cutting down the trees, cleaned and ground into pulp using a water mill with zero industrial waste powered by a local stream.

Japanese cedar, along with species of pine and oak trees, contains a natural antimicrobial substance known as phytoncide, widely used in Japanese and Chinese medicines and in aromatherapy to improve health and general relaxation.
In Japan, people commonly engage in forest bathing (森林浴 shin-rin-yoku) to breathe in phytoncides emitted by plant and trees, in order to improve their health.
