How to Use

Use Instead of Chemically-altered "Pearl" You Find in Beauty Products

Our pearl powder is 100% natural and free of chemicals, additive, and preservatives.

Many products contain "Hydrolyzed" pearl as an ingredient, also called Hydrolyzed conchiolin. This ingredient is commonly made by using Hydrochloric acid (HCl) to break down pearl's protein (to make it water soluble) and then adding preservatives such as Phenoxyethanol warned by FDA as toxic.

Avoid harmful chemicals by mixing our natural pearl powder with your own cosmetics insteadAvoid harmful chemicals by mixing our natural powder with your own cosmetics instead.

Mix with Cleanser, Moisturizer, Sunscreen, and Liquid or Powder

Mix a small amount with your favorite cosmetic. Apply to face, neck, hands or body as you wish. If using soap or cleanser, wash and rinse as normal.

One or two scoops with the provided spatula are sufficient for most applications. One scoop of powder weighs about 0.1 grams.

Goes well with our Aya Camellia Oil, Bijin Rice Bran Moisturizer as well as additive-free soaps.

Make a Nutrient-rich Mask

Mix 2 gram pearl powder, 2 tsp wheat powder, 3 tsp water, milk or soy milk

Pearl powder mixes well with almost all powders, oils and other common mask ingredients. Below is a sample recipe.

  1. Take 2 grams of pearl powder
  2. Add 2 tsp of wheat powder (or Shiro Nuka if you like gluten-free)
  3. Add 2 to 3 tsp of water, milk or soy milk
  4. Add other ingredients such as honey or a good moisturizing oil as you prefer
  5. Mix well. Apply to face for 10 minutes
  6. Rinse with lukewarm water

Apply as Mineral Highlighter or Translucent Setting/Finish Powder

If you are using multiple products for your makeup, pearl powder can serve as a three-in-one alternative for a soft focus, natural look.

Our pearl powder is so fine that it goes on translucent. Brush on a small amount over foundation as setting powder, or over makeup as a finishing powder to subtly blur fine lines and control oil and shine.

Or, apply a little more powder with a highlighter brush (or Q-tip) to use as a subtle highlighter.

Pristine Uwajima Bay

Almost all of Japan's Akoyas come from three seaside bays: Ago bay (in Mie), Omura bay (in Nagasaki) and Uwajima bay in Ehime prefecture, where we get our supplies.

Uwajima bay is a pristine body of water in southern Shikoku, the smallest of Japanese main islands

Uwajima bay is a pristine body of water in southern Shikoku, the smallest of Japanese main islands, covering approximately 30 square kilometers.

South Shikokou is an ecologically important area, with vast stretches of uninhabited coastline from Uwajima bay in the west to the imposing cliffs of Cape Ashizuri all the way to the Shimanto coast in the east.

Facing Umajima bay is historic Uwajima town. It has a population of 77,400 (2015) who for centuries have cared for the bay and depend on its bounty of Akoyas and fishery resources for their livelihood.

Unique Nacre of Akoyas

Nacre is the inner layer of the shell and the outer coating of the pearl itself

Akoya, known as akoya-gai in Japanese, is a saltwater pearl oyster scientifically called Pinctada fucata martensii. It has been cultivated in Japan for over 100 years and is prized worldwide for its nacre's elegance.

Akoyas are rare, mainly because they are sensitive to pollutants and other environmental factors. Akoyas from Japan account for less than 2% of the world market.

Nacre (pronounced neikər) is the inner layer of the shell and the outer coating of the pearl itself. Pearl's skin-beautifying and nourishing properties are all about its Nacre.

Skin-loving Minerals and Amino Acids

Akoya pearl oyster nacre is a fine layer of calcium carbonate crystals and Conchiolin protein

Akoya's nacre is a fine crystal layer of minerals and amino acids.

94% of the content of our Akoya nacre powder is minerals such as calcium in the form of calcium carbonate crystals (CaCO3) plus magnesium and iron.

5% of the rest is Conchiolin, a complex protein of 17 amino acids which bond the calcium carbonate crystals together. About 1% is pure water.

Refined Luster and Hues

Nacre of Akoya pearl oyster has deeper luster and iridescence (orient) compared to other kinds

It is a well-known fact to gemologists that nacre of Japanese Akoya has deeper luster and iridescence compared to other kinds.

This is due to Akoya nacre crystals' flatter and more organized microstructure than other varieties.

As a result, Akoya nacre produces a finer quality powder with a refined luster and subtle hues.

I've heard some wonderful things about Akoya Nacre Pearl Powder and it's true. I highly recommend this powder mixed with the Bijin oil on face and neck. It gives your skin this little extra pearly shine, create a beautiful natural glow. I’ve been using it for 2 days now and really like the effect it is having on my skin. I’m such a big fan of Wawaza and their commitment to creating high quality products. The customer service is also the best - WONDERFUL PERSON HANAKO. Warm regards.

  2. Love it

Posted by Claudia on 8th Sep 2018

In my opinion, it‘s not a must have but I truly love it - apart from its nourishing qualities, it adds a subtle pearly shine without making my skin look oily during the day which just looks great!

  3. My skin

    Posted by Ocean009 on 17th Mar 2018

I got this long ago and I forgot where I put it away. Last month, I found it from one of drawers and carefully read how to use it. I have been having a hard time with my dry skin with the winter season. So I have been using this product with Bijin Rice Bran oil for twice a day, WOW MUCH MUCH better! Also, aging spots are getting lighter. What a great combo!

  4. very reccomended

Posted by Unknown on 13th Feb 2018

I started using this powder in summer, intending it basically as an anti-shine. But then, as I realized how it softened and enhanced my skin texture, I am applying it on a daily basis also now in winter. It doesn't dry my skin at all! - as one usually thinks "a powder" may do. What a special powder this is! So so happy with this product!!

  5. Excellent synergy with the Rice Bran oil

Posted by erika on 8th Apr 2017

I highly recommend this powder mixed with the Bijin oil(they blend together perfectly, seem to be created for each other). This mixture soaks in instantly, leaving the skin soft and moreover very compact. In short time I have treated my thin and flabby skin on the neck . It does a remarkable “boosting” action, great support to the oil itself.
    Very very valuable combination.

  6. Soft Glow

Posted by NutmegsMom on 24th Feb 2017

I love this product. This website educated me on the natural orgin of pearl essence and the minerals in it. I use it with my Bijin oil on my face and neck. Its thick consistency protects my skin and I feel a difference after the first use. I continue to use this wonderful product twice a day with no need for makeup (I like the natural look, hyperpigmentation and all). The Nuka I use to cleanse and the Bijin oil both seem to soften the hyperpigmentation so it looks nice not garish.

The soft diffusing properties of the nacre is aesthetically pleasing too.

Thanks for a great product! I'll keep all three products stocked for my optimal skincare.

  7. Facial mask

Posted by Unknown on 5th Dec 2016

This does NOT need to be avoided o the eye contour area as most of the face masks - actually is VERY RECCOMENDED for the little lines/wrinkles around the eyes, as for the few times I have applied it, they already have visibly diminished. Only before spreading, make sure it is not too warm as temperature for that delicate area.

  8. Face mask

Posted by Sarah on 4th Dec 2016

I would like to share an AMAZING and super simple face mask I figured out with this pearl powder. The other ingredient is Carragheenan (lat. "chondrus crispus" - a seaweed) powder. Take of it 2,5g and add 0.3-0.5g pearl powder - mix them well together. Then slowly pour this mixture into 40ml very warm( (distilled is better) water while stirring it vividly(the water) with a mini electric twister (or something similar - to avoid lumps). Let it cool down some minute, the carragheen will form a good jelly texture. Spread on face and neck & keep on for 15-20 mins. Then rinse off well, and done! Great results for a glowing and silky skin, just with these 2 ingredients!!

  9. Very good quality

Posted by nicole on 20th Nov 2016

Very versatile product. Basically it softens the shin, smoothens the texture. And this powder has also a slight mattifying effect, so it’s great in combination with pure oils to balance some shiny effect. In addition to other moisturizers, seem to ‘fix’ and absorb it better.

  10. Lovely natural glow

    Posted by N. on 5th Oct 2016

This is a very lovely pearl powder! I’ve been using it for a few days now and really like the effect it is having on my skin. It seems to create a beautiful natural glow that appears as if it is coming from the inside of my skin. It also arrived very quickly and was packaged with great care - I even love the little pouch in comes in and the spatula is very helpful for measuring. The fact that this is an all-natural product with no additives, preservatives, etc. is why I’m such a big fan of Wawaza and their commitment to creating high quality products. The customer service is also the best. Very happy customer - will definitely be back - Arigatou!
